The Journal of Business Economics just published an article of the efl research team Benjamin Clapham, Micha Bender, Jens Lausen and Peter Gomber on “Policy Making in the Financial Industry: A Framework for Regulatory Impact Analysis Using Textual Analysis”. In this paper, the authors develop a framework that allows researchers and regulators to assess the impact of regulatory actions that result in huge numbers of company disclosures and other documents that are hard to evaluate with existing manual processes. By applying the framework to the revised best execution requirements in MiFID II, the paper shows that MiFID II failed to improve informativeness and comprehensibility of best execution policies for investors.
